Monitoring the Iron Butterfly B-52 (updated 18 April 2003)

In the early days of March 2003 fourteen B-52 aircraft arrived at RAF Fairford base. Hours before the Pentagon briefing 'Shock and Awe' the first Iron Butterfly, a B-52 Stratofortress, of the 457th Air Expeditionary Group, 23rd Expeditionary Bomb Squadron, 5th Bomber Wing took off from the forward-deployed base Fairford in the UK. These B-52 were at that day, 21 March 2003, refueled in ARA 10 near LND in the Southwest of the UK. The 100 Air Refueling Wing from Mildenhall with their KC-135 airplanes plays a key-role in enabling B-52 aircraft to succeed in their missions. Check this part of my website to monitor these missions with frequencies, call signs and additional information. Attention! The Buffs are changing their c/s every day! On Thursday 17 April 2003: First B-52 returned from Fairford to the US

Listen here to refueling of the WILCOX 34 by the TERRY 05 on 297.750 on 26 March 2003 around 18:45 UTC near the Dutch - German border in the KIM / SHORT ARA at FL 280.

More recorded audio files during the missions of the B-52 and KC-135 can be found here.....
